Abstract This article notes that the suicide rates among Indigenous groups have been reported to be two to four times more frequent than the rest of the population. The 1992 rate of age-standardized suicide in NWT was estimated to be 23 per 100,000 compared to 13 per 100,000 for all of Canada. "From 1986 to 1996, the direct age-standardized rate for Nunavut was 67.4 per 100,000 persons, five times the national rate reported in 1992 (13 per 100,000). The age-standardized rate for the NWT as a whole was 36.7 per 100,000, almost three times the national rate."
