Wash your HANDS of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. New Luvox (fluvoxamine).. The unique monocyclic SSRI offering new hope to patients with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Luvox is a highly selective inhibitor of serotonin reuptake, which is thought to be an important factor in achieving therapeutic efficacy in patients with non-depressive disorders such as OCD. In fact, Luvox is one of the most extensively studied SSRI's in OCD. The efficacy of Luvox in OCD has been clearly demonstrated in double-blind controlled studies involving over 600 patients, with the benefits of treatment becoming obvious after only 2-3 weeks. But it's what Luvox doesn't give you that matters. While being at least as effective as clomipramine in the treatment of OCD, Luvox is associated with significantly fewer anti-cholinergic side effects, and less sexual dysfunction.
